You can watch the John Lewis’ 2022 Christmas ad entitled 'The Beginner' below:
The latest John Lewis Christmas ad has arrived – and alongside choosing to highlight an important message, the company’s music choice has opted for a more alternative angle this year.
For the music choice this year, a cover of Blink-182’s 'All The Small Things', performed by the U.S. singer Mike Geier, can be heard over the advert – and while the classic pop-punk track isn’t by any means a Christmas staple unlike their aptly named titled 'Happy Holidays You B*stard', it is relevant within this advert as the main character tries to learn how to skate in time for the arrival of his new skateboard-obsessed foster-daughter.
The whole advert shares an important message in aid of raising awareness for the UK’s care system, in which currently over 108,000 children currently reside.
Regarding this years advert, John Lewis’ senior advertising manager Holly Kicul stated that “We could have heavily gone for Christmas magic and fun but that didn’t feel the right thing to do this year with everything going on,". “It felt the right thing to use this platform we have to get this message [on carers] out. We wanted to have laughter but in a different way to what we do normally.”
